According to the latest State of the World’s Children report, at minimum about 13% of youths ranging in the age group of 10 and 19 live with some or the other mental disorder.
The major problem is the very mentality that what do youths have to worry about. Others think of teen depression as just some temporary sadness that heals on its own in a couple of days. This prevents them to speak their pain out to others- feeling that it will not be understood by anyone and thus, having to live with it alone.
It imposes a large negative impact on the daily functioning of their early stages of life.
Some symptoms in teens can differ from that of adults, and some are similar.
- Lack of concentration, motivation and passion- In studies and other activities, anf feeling like not wanting to do anything.
- Crying often out of no where
- Sleeping excessively all the time or not at all- struggling with insomnia
- Confusion and trouble in taking various important decisions
- Social isolation from family and friends- wanting to stay alone
- Feeling irritated or behaving rude sometimes
- Losing or gaining collective pounds of weight quickly
- Feeling all drained out of energy and Lethargic
- Being more clingy to a particular person
- Suicidal thoughts or suicide attempts
- Self-Hate
- Not wanting to go to school/college, and staying at home as much as possible
- Complaining and seeing the down side of everything
- Loss of self-esteem and zero confidence
One should try asking himself/herself: How long, how strongandhow much do the depression symptoms impact you.Taking an online counseling or online therapy should always be considered when it comes to youths otherwise teen depression can be the very first stage of developing more mental health illnesses in future.
